I knew I didn’t want to follow in my parents’ footsteps and become an engineer, but rather do something completely different that would still allow me to support myself and support them in the future. At school, I completed a business and mathematics/computer science program, so I knew I wanted to be able to utilize all those skills together. I was interested in identifying a way that I could work in a field where business and technology intersect. So that influenced me to explore technology consulting, which has been a perfect fit for me.

I was referred to Capco by a former co-worker, who mentioned that while Capco is a global company, its focus is purely on financial services. I liked this very dedicated industry focus. It allows you to make a complete impact across the client organization and facilitates more efficient use of resources. Having never worked in consulting before, I thought this would be a great new challenge for me.

When I interviewed at Capco Toronto, I felt like everyone was super down to earth and interested in developing a personal connection with their colleagues. The culture helped make me feel right at home. Capco very much practices what it preaches with its open and inclusive Be Yourself At Work culture. As a woman, I’ve always felt I was afforded equal opportunity.

My career highlights at Capco revolve around my experiences on diverse projects and roles while growing different skill sets. The development of these skills helped me zero-in on where I want to focus as a consultant. My first project saw me flying solo at a client site while the most recent has me working as part of a team of 80. My roles have varied from project manager to data analyst to now being more on the technical side in an architecture-related role. This range of experiences helped me form a better understanding of which environments I excelled in, solidifying my passion for system analysis and solution architecture.

My first project with one of the ‘Big Five’ banks in Canada was very memorable. I was working solo there on data analysis for an AML systems modernization project. You only get one chance to make an excellent first impression as a new consultant, being able to deliver success and seeing my happy clients boosted my confidence and motivated me to continue in consulting. I’ve made it a point to learn something new on every project. For my most recent project, we built a bank!

Capco offers plenty of fun extracurricular activities, and I try to attend as many as possible. When COVID-19 started, there were cooking lessons offered, for example, and before that, we had regular beverage Fridays in the office. I also lead the Waterloo campus recruitment effort for the Toronto office. Over the last five years, I have been able to share my journey and bring some bright talent into Capco, which has been a very rewarding experience.
