I always imagined myself in a job where I could help people. When I discovered cybersecurity as a concept in high school, I instinctively knew it was something I would love. Originally, I planned to become a lawyer and signed up for a degree in cybersecurity. But during my undergraduate years, I fell in love with the idea of working in risk management and decided to get firsthand experience in the business world, helping companies ensure data privacy and security. 

Before Capco, I worked in digital forensics and incident response, helping clients who had recently suffered malware, ransomware, or other cyber-attacks. I gained a wealth of technical knowledge, but knew I’d be happier working more proactively to help clients defend themselves in the first place. So, the Cybersecurity Consultant role at Capco felt like a perfect fit – client facing, risk management focused, and a place where I could grow my skillset. 

During my interviews I met members of the cyber team, including the Partner who leads the practice. It was a great experience. They gave me all the confidence I needed to take the role and I’ve never been happier. Now, work doesn’t feel like a job. It is something I’m excited and refreshed to pursue every day. The team and my client colleagues make me feel valued and appreciated and I’ve ditched the imposter syndrome that prevented me from feeling like I belonged in cybersecurity.

Capco’s pioneering approach to diversity and inclusion also makes me feel at home. Earlier this year, during cybersecurity awareness month, a few women on the cyber team recommended that we increase the number of women in leadership roles. Within a month, management hired an incredible and inspiring female leader. Seeing leadership put our ideas into action was refreshing and encouraging. 

Right now, I’m excited about a project where we are driving remediation of cybersecurity issues identified by regulators and auditors at a large government bank. During my time with this client, I’ve balanced the needs of over 50 stakeholders while keeping up to date with ever-changing processes and procedures. Thanks to support from the Capco team and the client, I was able to put my best foot forward every day and I was recognized by the client as a top performer.

Outside of work, spending quality time with my friends and family brings me enormous joy. I draw inspiration from my parents who always worked their hardest to give me the best life possible. Their example encouraged me to be a good role model to my little brother who is my favourite person in the world. 

Last, but definitely not least, I always make time for my favorite hobbies including baking, cooking, and reading. Fun fact - I make the best homemade pizza!
