ISO 20022 – FOUNDATIONS, COMMERCIALISATION, AND THE PATH TO GLOBAL PAYMENTS INTEROPERABILITY
In the first of our series, we look at the continued importance of the ISO 20022 standard in enhancing cross-border payments.
The global banking and payments community spoke with one voice at Sibos 2022: as an industry, we are building towards a shared vision of frictionless and cheap global payments. However, how this ‘nirvana’ will work in practice – and how we will collectively arrive at that destination – are both still very much up for debate.
Outside of core payments, the primary themes that emerged spanned new technologies, and the decentralization of international trade. While there was a demonstrable appetite to explore new horizons, there was also healthy scepticism regarding real-world applications.
In this series we explore four key themes to emerge during the conference that we believe will loom large in the banking and payments conversation well into 2023.
